Leadership Staying Put

The Colts' 2015 fourth round draft pick and 2018 defensive captain, Clayton Geathers, is staying in Indy on what is reportedly a one-year deal. Geathers played a career-high twelve games in 2018, and has rightly earned the reputation of being injury-prone. He has been described as a building block by Chris Ballard, and he is very popular in the Colts' locker room. Geathers isn't the big splash at safety that many fans called for, but he is exactly the splash I was looking for. The Colts brought back their starting strong safety, and I fully expect them to look to safety in the middle rounds due to his injury issues. I also expect them to look to veteran free agents to ensure they have the needed depth behind their injury-prone safety duo. This was a move to retain one of the Colts' top talents despite his issues as he is a major part of their defensive foundation. If Geathers can finally put it all together for 16 games, I would look for him to get a much larger, longer-term contract next offseason.
