I'm finishing up my first crack at a mock draft which I began a couple weeks ago. As free agency has opened and the first week has taken place and a few trades and such have occurred, I have begun to hate this mock more and more but I feel obligated to finish it so I guess I'll get started on this last piece.
To recap, please see picks 1 through 20 below:
.)ARI - QB - Murray
.) SF - DE - Bosa
.) NYG (trade up) - QB - Haskins
.) OAK - Edge - Allen
.) TB - DT - Williams
.) NYJ (trade down) - DE - Gary
.) JAX - WR - Metcalf
.) DET - Edge - Sweat
.) BUF - OT - Taylor
.) DEN - LB - White
.) CIN - OT - Dillard
.) GB - OT - Williams
.) MIA - QB - Lock
.) ATL - TE - Hockenson
.) WAS - CB - Williams
.) CAR - LB - Bush
.) CLE - OT - Little
.) MIN - DT - Oliver
.) TEN - TE - Fant
.) PIT - WR - Ridley
.) Seattle Seahawks; Dalton Risner, Offensive Line, Kansas State - The Seahawks have their QB, they have a strong defense, the have a running game, now they need linemen to protect Russell Wilson. Risner can play four spots along the o-line, seems like a perfect fit.
.) Baltimore Ravens; Brian Burns, Edge Rusher, Florida State - The Ravens let Terrell Suggs, Za'Darius Smith, C.J. Mosley, and Eric Weddle all walk in free agency while bringing in Earl Thomas. They have a need for an edge rusher now and they fill that role with a lengthy defensive end from Florida State.
.) Houston Texans; Garrett Bradbury, Center, N.C. State - Texans begin the process of fixing their offensive line, which was the worst in the league last year. Bradbury is the best center in the draft and fills a major need for the Texans. Most great QBs have a good center in front of them. DeShaun Watson has a chance to be a great QB, now the Texans need to treat him like that is the case.
.) Oakland Raiders; Deandre Baker, Conerback, Georgia - Jim Thorpe Award winner, Baker, heads out west to the Raiders to give them some improved corner play. Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden should run to the podium if Baker is available.
.) Philadelphia Eagles; Cody Ford, Offensive Line, Oklahoma - Philly has had good luck with Offensive Tackles from Oklahoma (Lane Johnson) and Jason Peters isn't getting any younger and with Carson Wentz's recent injury history, protecting him should be a major priority.
.) Indianapolis; Jaylon Ferguson, Edge, Louisiana Tech - A fight at a McDonald's when he was 18 kept him from participating in the combine, but Ferguson is the FBS all-time sack leader. He would fill a massive need for the Colts.
.) Oakland Raiders; Nasir Adderley, Safety, Delaware - Best safety available at this point. The Raiders continue their defensive rebuild by adding Adderley to the secondary.
.) Los Angeles Chargers; Christian Wilkins, Defensive Tackle, Clemson - A tackle to replace Corey Liuget while also being a better scheme fit than Liuget was. He should also help improve the team's run defense while supplying some interior pass rush help to pair with Ingram and Bosa.
.) Kansas City Chiefs; Clelin Ferrell, Edge, Clemson - The Chiefs jettisoned their two top edge rushers, so now they bring in Clelin Ferrell to make up some of that production and pair him with Chris Jones.
.) Green Bay Packers; N'Keal Harry, Wide Receiver, Georgia - A big-bodied receiver to pair with Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. This move would give Rodgers some more help as the Packers push towards Super Bowl contention again in the second half of Rodgers' career.
.) Los Angeles Rams; Dexter Lawrence, Defensive Tackle, Clemson - A true nose tackle to fill the void created by Ndamakong Suh walking in free agency. Their run defense was lacking and in Wade Phillips 3-4 scheme, nose tackle will usually only play two downs, but Lawrence is better than most, he will command double teams and help keep blockers off of the Rams linebackers and Aaron Donald. He's athletic enough to pick up a couple sacks but that wouldn't be his primary function.
.) New England Patriots; Irv Smith Jr., Tight End, Alabama - Gronk replacement or running mate? We will see. Smith is possibly the best player available and helps the Patriots continue their era of dominance as Brady continues to play deep into the twilight of his career.
