Mock Draft Post Combine (Top-10)

The NFL Scouting Combine has wrapped up and we have some big-time movers and shakers. The biggest winners this past week were QB Kyler Murray, he didn't throw but he measured better than anyone expected; DK Metcalf, he is quite possibly the biggest athletic freak to enter the draft since Jadeveon Clowney; and Rashan Gary, Montez Sweat, and Quinnen Williams showed athletic skills never before seen (or rarely seen) for men their size. This draft possibly has the most defensive talent we've ever seen, while having some straight up dogs on the offensive side of the ball with quite a few enigmas on each side of the ball.

This will be my first crack at a mock draft since I have been waiting on the combine before I dive in too heavily. For my first round, I'm going to make a few assumptions. I am assuming the Cardinals will trade Josh Rosen to the Washington Redskins or Miami Dolphins, and the Jaguars sign their QB for the foreseeable future in Nick Foles - let's get started:

1) Arizona Cardinals; Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma University - Kliff Kingsbury gets his quarteback. The defense is transitioning back to a 3-4 which made Quinnen Williams an intriguing prospect on the defensive front, and Nick Bosa is the best player in the draft, albeit not a great scheme fit. However, the Cardinals go Murray here after he measured in taller than expected, he was also heavier than expected. Kingsbury is offensive-minded and is on record saying Kyler would be his pick if he drafted 1st overall. This may also be the only spot Murray could go in the top half of the first round after a rumored less-than-stellar showing in the combine interview rooms, according to Charlie Casserly of the NFL Network.

2) San Francisco 49ers; Nick Bosa, Edge, The Ohio State University - This is one of the rare spots where best player available and need meet. This move make the 49ers defensive front terrifying. They will have top picks at every single spot along the defensive line. Bosa has been viewed as the best player in this draft since last year's draft occurred and if he falls to #2, John Lynch should sprint to turn his pick in.

3) New York Jets; Trade down with the New York Giants for additional draft picks and/or Edge Rusher Olivier Vernon while swapping firsts. New York Giants; Dwayne Haskins, QB, The Ohio State University - I have the Giants swapping firsts and receiving a mid-round pick from the Jets while giving up Vernon and two second round picks, one this year and one next to get to this position. This trade, in turn, allows the Giants to get their QB for the next decade. The triumvirate of Haskins, Saquon Barkley, and Odell Beckham Jr. would provide the Giants with, arguably, one of the most talented big 3's in the league (mostly on the shoulders of Beckham and Barkley). They also have a highly talented Tight End in Evan Engram. Their offensive line is still porous and their defense is suspect at best, but they'll be set at the most important position in American professional sports.

4) Oakland Raiders; Josh Allen, Edge, Kentucky - The decision for the Raiders comes to Josh Allen or Quinnen Williams and here I have them going with the edge rusher due to the presence of Maurice Hurst and P.J. Hall on the defensive interior. Allen would give Jon Gruden his most talented and versatile pass rusher since Khalil Mack. Allen improves the defense immediately. The combination of Allen, Hall, Hurst, and Arden Key would give the Raiders a very interesting and talented defensive front that will hopefully net them more sacks than the pathetic 14 they mustered last year.

5) Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle, Alabama - Williams is the best defensive interior prospect in the draft this year. Gerald McCoy (if he isn't released), Vita Vea, and Williams would have the potential to form one of the best three man fronts in the league. The Buccaneers also currently have defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul on the roster. If the Buccaneers keep McCoy and continue to trot out a mostly 4-3 style defense, it may be a fun challenge for defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to make all the pieces fit, but if they transition to Bowles's more aggressive 1-gap, blitz heavy, hybrid style defense that favors long corners and positional diversity in the front-seven (which they have already pretty much stated they will do) Williams is the perfect fit along the front line.

6) New York Giants; Trade up with the New York Jets and give up two second round draft picks and Edge Rusher Olivier Vernon while swapping firsts and getting a mid-rounder. New York Jets; Rashan Gary, Defensive End, Michigan; In this scenario, I have the Jets fixing their woes at Edge Rusher through a trade AND the draft. If the Jets keep their 3-4 scheme, that they have run since 2006, I see Gary playing as their 5-technique defensive end opposite of Leonard Williams with a big space-eating nose tackle in between them with Olivier Vernon playing as their rush linebacker. If the Jets switch to Gregg Williams's 4-3 defense alignment, that he has run nearly his whole career (which I see happening, just maybe not immediately). I see Gary as their strong side defensive end, opposite of Vernon with Williams making the transition to the 3-technique defensive tackle spot. Gary provides the Jets scheme diversity and freakish athletic talent.

7) Jacksoville Jaguars; DK Metcalf, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss; The Jaguars have signed Nick Foles; otherwise, they'd be drafting a QB here, but since they are set at QB, I have them getting some help for Foles. If the Jaguars picked about 5 spots later, my pick for the Jags would be TE T.J. Hockenson with new offensive coordinator, John DeFilippo and Foles in place but since they pick in the top-10, I have them looking elsewhere for help. This pick comes down to either offensive tackle, Andre Dillard to take over Foles' blindside, or DK Metcalf to become their #1 receiver. I went Metcalf as he is such an athletic freak and I don't think he'll make it outside of the top-10.

8) Detroit Lions; Montez Sweat, Edge, Ole Miss; With or without Ziggy Ansah, the Lions need another pass rusher. Sweat is long and fast, an ideal pass rusher in today's NFL. He also fits as a Chandler Jones-esque chess piece for Lions Head Coach, Matt Patricia. This one is a no-brainer.

9) Buffalo Bills; Jawaan Taylor, Offensive Tackle, Florida; Taylor isn't my top offensive lineman, that spot belongs to Andre Dillard out of Washington, but I see the Bills being higher on Taylor as he seems to be more physical in the running game while being sufficient in pass protection. He also can fit on either end of the line at right or left tackle. The Bills have to get Josh Allen some help and with the top receiver being off the board and he being the only one worthy of a top-10 pick, they have to go best offensive lineman available for what they do offensively.

10) Denver Broncos; Devin White, Linebacker, LSU; I considered Drew Lock here for the Broncos, but I think John Elway and the Broncos likely consider Joe Flacco as their savior (for now); however, I very much see them taking a quarterback later in the draft. The Broncos strength is definitely their defense which I expect to just get stronger with Vic Fangio at the helm now and with the release of linebacker Brandon Marshall, the Broncos have a spot to fill in their linebacking corps. White is very fast and immediately makes a strength even stronger for the Broncos.

Picks 11 through 20 will be coming later in the week.
