We'll See What Happens... I Guess?

It's the happiest time of year. The 100th NFL season kicks off tonight when the Bears and Packers face off at Soldier Field in Chicago.

I haven't been writing much (or at all recently) due to some big things happening in my personal life: just moved to a new city, just started a new job, and I am about to get married. As a result of not writing, I haven't recapped any of the huge goings-ons of the last few weeks/months. A team that I KNEW was going to win the Super Bowl, now has a retired franchise QB. I also didn't discuss the minor injury that led to the surprise retirement. Or that a second round pick who really excites me missed most of camp. Or that the Colts' o-line depth (aside from Joe Haeg) looked like hot garbage in the preseason. Or that, in my mind, this Colts team is way better and more exciting than last year's 10-6 squad, even without Luck.

Andrew Luck's retirement ripped my heart out and for that reason, I'm not going to rehash it. I wish him nothing but the best and I hope he finds his happiness again. If you wish to know how I feel on the subject, I hate to send readers to other blogs, but please read Heather Lloyd's open letter to Andrew on The Blue Mare.

I'm not going to do a game preview or recap for the next couple weeks (a lot going on... remember?), I'll leave those up to Chris for a few weeks, but I will do a very brief season preview.

I love this 53 man roster. We have speed/strength/size/talent/depth at almost every position. I don't see any glaring weaknesses. Jacoby Brissett knows this offense, has a huge arm, and is loved by his teammates, which makes me optimistic in regards to the QB position.

Our offensive line depth aside from Haeg doesn't do much for me, but we're at least 6 deep. LeRaven Clark is below average in my opinion for a backup tackle and Josh Andrews is somewhat unknown to me. Those are the two biggest areas to watch in my mind as long as the injury bug doesn't crop up.

Our schedule is tougher than last year since we finished with a much improved record from the year prior. Worst case scenario (with no major injuries) to me is 7-9 and that's with the Colts splitting with each team in the division (probably won't happen.) I no longer see this team as a sure fire Super Bowl prediction, but I do see them as a playoff team unless the wheels just completely fall off. A realistic prediction is 10-6 which matches last year's record.

I say all this while acknowledging that I know nothing and anything can happen so, we'll see what happens... I guess?
